Dehradun
Dehradun serves as a major gateway to the hill stations of the north, including Mussoorie. Tucked away in the Doon Valley, it is known for its elite boarding schools and military institutions. The city's landscape is dotted with heritage buildings, most notably the Forest Research Institute with its grand Greco-Roman architecture. Dehradun is also world-famous for its high-quality Basmati rice and fragrant lychee orchards. Unique natural features like Robber's Cave (Guchhupani), a river cave where water disappears underground, attract many visitors. Cultural sites range from the ancient Tapkeshwar Temple dedicated to Shiva to the majestic Mindrolling Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist centers in the world. The city enjoys a temperate climate, making it pleasant most of the year, though spring and autumn are well-suited. It is well-connected by the Jolly Grant Airport and a major railway terminus.
