Coonoor
Coonoor is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu. It is famous for its production of Nilgiri tea and its sprawling, manicured tea estates that blanket the rolling hills. Visitors are drawn to the tranquility of this town, which serves as a quieter alternative to the bustling Ooty nearby. One of the main highlights is Sim's Park, a beautifully maintained botanical garden home to hundreds of rare plant species. Adventure seekers and nature lovers enjoy the numerous trekking trails that lead to viewpoints like Dolphin's Nose and Catherine Falls, offering panoramic vistas of the deep valleys. The historic Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site, provides a scenic "toy train" journey through tunnels and over bridges. The best time to visit is from October to March when the weather is mild and pleasant. Local cuisine features traditional South Indian flavors along with high-quality chocolates and honey produced in the region.
