Rameswaram
Rameswaram is located on Pamban Island and is connected to the mainland by the iconic Pamban Bridge. Pilgrims flock here to visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple, renowned for its intricately carved corridors, the longest in the world. It is a place of deep spirituality where, according to legend, Lord Rama built a bridge to Sri Lanka. Nature has serene beaches and the mystical atmosphere of Dhanushkodi, a ghost town where the Indian Ocean meets the Bay of Bengal. The region is also the home of the late President APJ Abdul Kalam, whose house is now a museum. Culinarilly, fresh seafood and traditional South Indian vegetarian meals dominate the local scene. Travelers usually arrive by train across the spectacular bridge or by bus from Madurai. The best time to visit is from October to March, when the weather is pleasant for temple visits and beach walks. It is for culture enthusiasts and spiritual seekers alike.
