Baradla Cave (Hungary)

Weather…

The Baradla Cave, part of the Aggtelek Karst, was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995 due to its unique geological formations. With a total length exceeding 25 kilometers, including the Domica section in Slovakia, it is one of the most significant cave systems in Central Europe. The cave was formed in Triassic limestone over millions of years by the dissolving action of surface waters and the Styx stream. Visitors can observe spectacular dripstones such as the 19-meter-high Observatory and the vast Hall of Giants, which is famous for its exceptional acoustics and regular classical music concerts. The internal temperature remains constant at approximately 10 degrees Celsius throughout the year, with humidity levels often reaching 100 percent. The cave serves as a vital habitat for over 500 animal species, including specialized cave dwellers like the blind cave shrimp and various protected bat species.
