Mount Mainalo is the highest mountain in Arcadia, Peloponnese, reaching an elevation of 1981 meters at its peak, Ostrakina. The massif is almost entirely covered in thick forests of Greek fir, giving it a deep green appearance throughout the year. In ancient mythology, Mainalo was the preferred domain of Pan, the god of the wild and shepherds, who was said to play his pipes and watch over flocks here. Today, the mountain is a hub for ecotourism and home to the 'Menalon Trail,' the first hiking path in Greece to be certified by the European Ramblers' Association. During winter, it serves as a popular skiing destination, with a ski center located on the Ostrakina plateau. The region is also famous for its traditional stone-built villages, such as Stemnitsa and Vytina, which are architecturally integrated into the rugged mountain scenery. Geologically, the massif is composed of limestone and features numerous karst springs that supply water to the surrounding valleys.
