Lake Doxa is an artificial lake located in the Corinthia region of the Peloponnese, perched at an elevation of 900 meters above sea level. It was formed in the late 1990s following the construction of a dam on the Doxa River, primarily intended to manage water resources for the Feneos plain. Surrounded by thick fir forests and the towering peaks of Mount Helmos and Mount Ziria, the area is frequently referred to as the "Greek Switzerland." A prominent feature of the lake is the small chapel of Agios Phanourios, which sits on a narrow peninsula extending into the water. This spot was originally the site of the Monastery of Agios Georgios, which was relocated to a nearby hillside as the lake waters rose. Today, Lake Doxa is a favorite destination for eco-tourism, offering activities like hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding along its shores. The still waters create a mirror-like effect, reflecting the surrounding alpine landscape in a wide-open display.

Getting there
The beautiful lake is easily reachable by car via scenic mountain roads gently winding through the region. The main road typically circles the entire lake, providing straightforward access everywhere.
Best season
It is a fabulous year-round destination, but crisp autumn gives spectacular orange foliage colors in the deep fir forests, while harsh winter often provides a memorable, snowy alpine-like atmosphere.

Exploring the immediate area usually involves walking effortlessly along the wide, flat, dirt tracks that run closely parallel to the calm lakeshore. The surrounding forest trails offer steeper options.
What to bring
Depending heavily on the season, surprisingly warm clothing is often necessary as the considerable elevation keeps temperatures quite cool. Standard walking shoes are sufficient for the dirt lakeside.

The paved mountain roads leading high up to the lake can be extremely winding and occasionally subject to minor rockfalls or winter black ice. Always drive slowly and carefully during the colder months.

Most happy visitors spend around two to four hours peacefully walking along the endless shore, taking numerous photographs of the scenic landscape, or enjoying a picnic in the quiet forest clearings.
