On 8 July, Lefkimmi celebrates the Feast of Saint Prokopios with a traditional religious panigyri, music and dancing.
Before Lent, Lefkimmi takes part in the Venetian-influenced Corfu Carnival with its local dance and cultural associations, parades, costumes and quadrille dances.
Lefkimmi is the largest settlement in southern Corfu and serves as the administrative hub for the region. The town is characterized by its traditional architecture and a narrow canal that runs through its center, providing a safe haven for local fishing boats. Unlike the more tourist-heavy northern parts of Corfu, Lefkimmi maintains a slow-paced, authentic atmosphere rooted in agriculture and salt production. The nearby Alykes salt pans were once a major industrial site during the Venetian rule and have now transformed into a significant wetland area, attracting migratory birds like flamingos. The local economy is bolstered by its bustling port, which features frequent ferry connections to the mainland port of Igoumenitsa. Rich in religious history, the town features several notable churches with impressive bell towers, reflecting the deep-seated traditions of the Ionian Islands. Its surrounding landscape is a lush mosaic of ancient olive groves and vineyards, producing some of the island's finest olive oil and wine.
