Rhodes Town is located at the northern tip of Rhodes island and is a fascinating open-air museum where different eras collide. The heart is the medieval Old Town, fortified by the Knights of the Order of St. John in the 14th century. Inside the four-kilometer-long city walls, the Street of the Knights (Odos Ippoton) leads to the impressive Palace of the Grand Master, which now houses a museum. The mix of Gothic architecture, Ottoman mosques, and Italian influences from the occupation period creates a unique charm. In contrast, the New Town features modern shops, cafes, and the Mandraki harbor. It is said that the legs of the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, once stood here. Today, two stag statues on columns mark the harbor entrance. The city also has the popular Elli beach, located right in the urban area, attracting locals and tourists with its clear water and iconic diving platform. The water remains warm well into October. For culture lovers, the Archaeological Museum in the former Knights' Hospital is a must-see. In the evenings, Hippocrates Square becomes a lively hub with numerous restaurants serving meze and fresh fish. Rhodes Town is well-connected by an international airport and a large ferry port. The best times for sightseeing without the intense heat are spring and autumn, while summer is handy for beachgoers.
