Bogoso Gold Mine (Ghana)

Weather…

The Bogoso Gold Mine (often referred to as Bogoso-Prestea) is located in the Western Region of Ghana, in an area with a mining history spanning over a century. Situated about 30 kilometers north of Tarkwa, the mine is known for its complex ore bodies containing both oxide and refractory gold ores. Modern mining operations began in the late 1980s, and the mine has been operated by various international firms over the decades, most notably Golden Star Resources. Today, the complex is owned by Future Global Resources (FGR). The facility features specialized processing circuits, including BIOX technology (biological oxidation), to extract gold from sulphidic ores. Bogoso encompasses both open-pit areas and significant underground resources in the Prestea sector. Despite operational challenges, the mine remains a key contributor to the Ghanaian mining landscape. Current management is focused on refurbishing the infrastructure and optimizing recovery rates to ensure long-term sustainability.
