Waldmünchen is located in northeastern Bavaria, tucked away within the pristine nature of the Upper Palatinate Forest and the Bavarian Forest. The town looks back on a turbulent history as a border town, shaped by trade as well as numerous armed conflicts. The town is particularly famous for the historical open-air play 'Trenck der Pandur vor Waldmünchen,' which commemorates the siege of the town in 1742 by the notorious Baron von der Trenck. The historic old town, with its market square and the parish church of St. Stephen, forms the cultural heart. Due to its location and excellent air quality, Waldmünchen holds the title of 'climatic health resort' and is a popular destination for hikers and mountain bikers. Another attraction is the nearby Perlsee lake, which provides diverse recreational opportunities. Economically, the town is defined by medium-sized businesses, agriculture, and tourism, with cross-border cooperation with the Czech Republic playing an increasingly important role.
