Obernburg am Main is a historic town in the Miltenberg district of Lower Franconia, Bavaria. Its history is deeply rooted in the Roman Empire, as it was founded around 100 AD as the fort Nemaninga to guard the Limes border along the Main River. Today, the Roman Museum of Obernburg houses one of the most important collections of Roman artifacts in the region. During the Middle Ages, the town became a fortified stronghold under the Electorate of Mainz, leaving behind a legacy of city walls and impressive watchtowers like the Hexenturm (Witch Tower). In the modern era, Obernburg transitioned into a major industrial hub. The Industrie Center Obernburg (ICO) is a globally recognized site for the production of high-performance chemical fibers and textiles. Geographically, the town is positioned between the Odenwald forest to the west and the Spessart mountains to the east, making it an excellent spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Its scenic location on the Main River, combined with its rich cultural scene featuring the 'Kochsmühle' cabaret stage, makes it a unique destination in Bavaria.
