Babenhausen in the South Hessian Ried looks back on over 700 years of city history. For a long time, the town was the center of the Babenhausen district and the residence of the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg, which gave it a significant administrative and cultural role in the region. Babenhausen Castle, a medieval moated castle later converted into a Renaissance palace, shapes the historical center. The old town features numerous lovingly restored timber-framed houses and remains of the old city wall, including the striking Witches' Tower. For many years, Babenhausen was also shaped by its garrison; the former barracks areas are now used for civilian purposes. Economically, the town is well-positioned with a healthy mix of medium-sized businesses and its proximity to the Rhine-Main area. For nature lovers, the surrounding plains and forests offer convenient conditions for hiking and cycling, while the town remains bustling through festivals such as the Easter market or the old town festival.
