City festival on the last June weekend in the historic old town of Lauf with music, stalls and conviviality.
Lauf an der Pegnitz is the administrative center of the Nürnberger Land district in Middle Franconia, boasting a rich history shaped by the power of the Pegnitz River. First mentioned in the 11th century, it was granted city rights in 1355 by Emperor Charles IV, who also commissioned the construction of the Wenzelschloss. This unique island castle served as a strategic stopover on the Golden Bull route between Prague and Nuremberg. The town's historic core is characterized by well-preserved half-timbered houses and a series of ancient mills that once drove its early industrial expansion. Today, Lauf has evolved into a high-tech industrial hub, particularly noted for its excellence in technical ceramics and precision engineering. Its location at the edge of the Franconian Jura mountains, combined with easy access to Nuremberg, provides a great balance of economic vitality and recreational opportunities.
