Courtroom 600 in the Nuremberg Palace of Justice achieved global historical significance as the venue for the Nuremberg Trials, held between November 20, 1945, and October 1, 1946. In this room, the leadership of the Nazi regime had to answer before an International Military Tribunal for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Nuremberg was chosen because the Palace of Justice remained largely intact and possessed an adjacent prison; furthermore, the city held high symbolic weight for the Nazi movement. For the trial, the courtroom was remodeled, including the breaking through of the back wall to accommodate the press and film crews. Although the room was used for regular judicial proceedings until 2020, it now serves exclusively as part of the Memorium Nuremberg Trials. The legal precedents established here laid the groundwork for the modern International Criminal Court in The Hague.
