Traunstein, located in the scenic Chiemgau region along the Traun River, serves as the central administrative and economic hub of southeastern Bavaria. For centuries, the town's prosperity was anchored by the salt industry, hosting a major saline plant that processed brine piped from the Alps. The historic town square, lined with ornate townhouses and the Church of St. Oswald, remains the lively heart of the city.
