At 1,493 meters, Feldberg is the highest peak in the Black Forest and all German central uplands. It serves as the centerpiece of a vast nature reserve, offering diverse activities year-round. In winter, it hosts the largest interconnected ski area in the region, featuring modern lifts and slopes for all skill levels. During the summer, it transforms into a premier hiking destination, with the 'Feldberg-Steig' trail offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and the distant Alps. The Feldberg Tower, a former radio tower, provides an observation deck that, on clear days, gives vistas extending to the Mont Blanc. Set in a glacial cirque below the summit is the Feldsee, a pristine lake accessible only by foot to preserve its delicate environment. The 'House of Nature' (Haus der Natur) at the base provides interactive exhibits on the local alpine flora and fauna. Feldberg is easily reachable from Freiburg and is home to excellent tourist amenities. The best time to visit is from January to March for skiing or from June to September for hiking and clear panoramic views.
