💡 Tips
- Ask about the Hochschwarzwald Card at your accommodation. It has free entry to many attractions, including the Adlerschanze ski jump and ski lifts.
- Take an easy hike on the flat trail from Hinterzarten to Lake Titisee (approx. 5 km) to avoid the crowds right at the lake.
- Visit the Adlerschanze ski jump complex even in summer. You can sometimes watch the ski jumpers training on the plastic matting.
- Hinterzarten is a climatic health resort. Take advantage of the clean, low-pollen air for deep breaths on a hike through the surrounding forests.
🍽 Food
Treat yourself to an authentic slice at a local pastry shop. Make sure it's made with genuine 'Kirschwasser' cherry schnapps.
Order a 'Vesper' snack board in a rustic inn, featuring thinly sliced Black Forest ham, bread, and pickles.
Especially in autumn, look for dishes with venison or wild boar from local hunts on the menus of country inns.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Although the main hubs are elsewhere, you can still find beautiful, hand-carved clocks in Hinterzarten as a classic souvenir.
Buy some fir honey or a bottle of 'Kirschwasser' (cherry schnapps) directly from one of the local farms for an authentic gift.

Hinterzarten is located in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park at an altitude between 850 and 1,200 meters. The village is a global name in Nordic skiing thanks to the Adler Ski Stadium, which hosts regular competitions. The village has maintained an exclusive charm and is known for its high-quality wellness hotels and pure Black Forest air. A must for nature lovers is a hike through the wild and romantic Ravenna Gorge, famous especially in winter for the Christmas market held under the viaduct of the Höllental Railway. Nearby Lake Titisee can be reached in just a few minutes, offering boat trips. The Black Forest Ski Museum at Hugenhof vividly documents the region's long history of winter sports. Culinary-wise, Black Forest Cherry Cake tops the list, but hearty Black Forest ham is also a staple of the local snack. Arrival is spectacular via the Höllental Railway from Freiburg, one of the steepest railway lines in Germany. The best time to visit is spring and autumn for hikers, and the winter months for skiers and fans of atmospheric markets.
