Kiang West National Park (Gambia)

Weather…

Kiang West National Park is one of the most outstanding nature reserves in Gambia, located on the southern bank of the Gambia River. Visitors come to this region to get a glimpse into the untouched ecosystem of West Africa, where dense mangrove forests, dry savannas, and floodplains form a fascinating mosaic. The park is an excellent destination for birdwatchers, as it is home to more than three hundred species of birds, and monkeys, warthogs, and rare antelope species also live here. Gastronomic experiences are limited to traditional Gambian dishes in local villages, where you can taste peanut domoda or spicy benachin. Exploring the nature reserve is best done with an experienced guide, as part of a boat or walking safari, as they know the hidden wildlife best. The park can be reached mainly via organized tours from the capital, Banjul, or by rented off-road vehicle, using a combination of ferries and dirt roads. The handy time to visit is the dry season, from November to April, when the animals are easier to spot around the water sources and the roads are more passable.
