Verrières-en-Anjou is a relatively new commune in the Maine-et-Loire department of western France, established on January 1, 2016, through the merger of Pellouailles-les-Vignes and Saint-Sylvain-d'Anjou. Located just northeast of Angers, it is an essential part of the Angers Loire Métropole, serving as a high-quality residential and economic hub. The town is famous for its historical link to the Anjou nobility, embodied by the magnificent Château de la Perrière. This 17th-century castle is an architectural masterpiece, now featuring an international golf course and hosting prestigious corporate events. Geographically, the area is defined by its fertile soils, which have made it a world-class center for horticulture. It is home to part of the Végépolys plant science cluster, attracting numerous research labs and agricultural businesses. The community prioritizes sustainable development, maintaining large public parks like the Parc de Saint-Aubin and investing in eco-friendly urban planning. Residents enjoy a blend of rural tranquility and urban proximity, with excellent transport links to the center of Angers. The merger has allowed for consolidated public services and a unified strategy for future growth while preserving the distinct cultural identities of the original villages.
