Montreuil-Juigné is located in the Pays de la Loire region, just a few kilometers north of Angers, with a landscape heavily shaped by the Mayenne river. The town is highly popular among nature enthusiasts and cyclists who frequent the old towpath running along the riverbank. The Juigné lock is a fascinating piece of engineering where visitors can spend summer afternoons watching houseboats navigate the waters. The extensive wetlands and marshes in the surrounding area provide a crucial habitat for numerous waterfowl and present excellent opportunities for long hikes. Historical landmarks include the Château de la Guyonnière, an imposing manor house originally built in the 15th century. Parc Garenne provides shaded picnic spots surrounded by centuries-old oak trees. The town center hosts a weekly market where local farmers sell fresh produce typical of the Anjou region. Its direct connection to the Vélo Francette cycling route makes this small town a well-suited rest stop for long-distance tours across western France.
