Orvault is a dynamic city located in the Loire-Atlantique department, serving as a key northwestern suburb of Nantes. Often referred to as a 'green city,' it is characterized by its hilly terrain and the scenic valley of the Cens River, a tributary of the Erdre. This valley provides a continuous natural path used for hiking and cycling that connects Orvault directly to the center of Nantes. Historically, the area was rural, dotted with aristocratic manors and mills. The most notable landmark is the Château de la Gobinière, which now functions as a major cultural arts center and public park. Economically, Orvault is a significant player in the Nantes metropolitan area, hosting large business districts like the 'Pôle Nord' and numerous company headquarters in the digital and service sectors. The city is divided into several distinct neighborhoods, including the traditional 'Bourg' and newer urban areas. It is well-served by the Nantes tramway system (Lines 2 and 3), ensuring rapid connectivity for its residents while maintaining a high quality of life through extensive parklands and sports facilities.
