Sèvremont is a newly formed commune in the Vendée department of western France, established on January 1, 2016. It brought together the former municipalities of La Flocellière, Les Châtelliers-Châteaumur, La Pommeraie-sur-Sèvre, and Saint-Michel-Mont-Mercure. The geography of the area is defined by the high Bocage hills, a landscape characterized by small fields enclosed by thick hedgerows and ancient stonewalls. Saint-Michel-Mont-Mercure is particularly notable for being the highest point in the entire Vendée department, standing at 290 meters above sea level. This elevation makes it a prominent landmark, often referred to as the 'roof of the Vendée.' The history of Sèvremont is deeply tied to the rural traditions and the religious fervor of the region, which played a significant role during the French Revolution. Today, the economy thrives on a mix of agriculture, local craftsmanship, and tourism. Visitors are drawn to the scenic hiking trails, the architectural heritage of its historic churches, and the panoramic views available from the elevated points of the commune. Its location is also good for tourists visiting the nearby Puy du Fou, one of France's most popular theme parks, providing a peaceful and authentic rural base for exploration.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
