Chemillé-en-Anjou is a prominent municipality in the Maine-et-Loire department, established in 2015 through the merger of thirteen former communes. Known as the 'Capital of Medicinal Plants', it sits at the heart of the Anjou region and leads the nation in the production of herbs, particularly chamomile. This botanical heritage is celebrated at the Camifolia gardens, which showcase over 600 species of therapeutic plants. Historically, the area was a key site during the Wars in the Vendée during the French Revolution, and remnants of its turbulent past can still be seen in its churches and local monuments. The geography is characterized by the scenic Hyrôme valley, offering lush landscapes and rich biodiversity. Economically, the town has diversified from its agricultural roots to include textile manufacturing and high-quality leather work. Today, Chemillé-en-Anjou is a model of rural innovation, combining its deep agricultural expertise with a modern, integrated approach to local governance and community development.
