Beaupréau-en-Mauges is a large commune in the Maine-et-Loire department, established in 2015 as a result of the merger of several villages, with Beaupréau as its historic heart. Located in the scenic Mauges region, it is deeply rooted in religious and royalist history, notably during the Vendée uprising against the French Revolution. The town is marked by grand buildings such as the Château de Beaupréau and the Church of Notre-Dame. Economically, the area was once the powerhouse of the French shoe-making industry, and while the sector has evolved, footwear remains a key part of the local identity and expertise. The surrounding landscape features the classic 'bocage' style, a patchwork of fields, hedges, and small valleys through which the Èvre River flows. Today, Beaupréau-en-Mauges serves as a vital service hub for the rural community, offering excellent schools, cultural centers, and sports facilities, all while maintaining its authentic, peaceful western French character.
