Ancenis-Saint-Géréon is a dynamic and scenic town in the Loire-Atlantique department, beautifully situated along the wide banks of the Loire River. Historically serving as a crucial border fortress between the Duchy of Brittany and the Kingdom of France, the town is anchored by the imposing Château d'Ancenis. This 15th-century castle features robust defensive towers alongside elegant Renaissance buildings that look directly out over the water. Another defining landmark is the elegant Ancenis suspension bridge, which gracefully spans the river and provides pedestrians impressive, wide-angle views of the Loire valley and traditional flat-bottomed wooden boats (toues) moored along the quays. The surrounding hillsides are draped in vineyards, making the town a fantastic destination for wine lovers eager to taste the region’s signature crisp, mineral-rich Muscadet or the local Malvoisie white wines right at the cellar door. For active travelers, Ancenis-Saint-Géréon is a major hub on the famous "La Loire à Vélo" cycling route.
