Loireauxence is a newly established commune in the Loire-Atlantique department, formed on January 1, 2016, through the merger of Belligné, La Chapelle-Saint-Sauveur, Varades, and Saint-Sigismond. It is situated along the northern banks of the Loire river, halfway between the major urban centers of Nantes and Angers. The commune's identity is deeply tied to the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offering a mix of fertile agricultural plains and scenic riverfronts. Historically, the area was a significant crossing point on the Loire, particularly during the turbulent French Revolutionary wars. Today, Loireauxence is a thriving rural community that supports a strong dairy industry and local vineyards. It is a popular stop for cyclists traveling the 'Loire à Vélo' route, attracted by its peaceful landscapes and historical sites like the Palais de la Madeleine. By combining the resources of four distinct villages, Loireauxence has created a modern administrative hub that provides high-quality services while preserving its traditional Angevin and Breton roots.
