Vias is located in the Hérault department, positioned between the Canal du Midi and the Mediterranean Sea. A defining feature of the village is its unique geology; many historic structures, including the striking 15th-century Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, are constructed from black basalt stone sourced from nearby extinct volcanoes in Agde. The old town follows a 'circulade' pattern, a circular layout typical of medieval Languedoc villages. While the inland areas are famous for extensive vineyards, the seaside district of Vias-Plage has grown into a major tourist hub with over seven kilometers of sandy beaches. The Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, flows through the commune, providing scenic routes for cycling and boating. Vias perfectly blends its medieval heritage with modern summer tourism and traditional Mediterranean agriculture.
