Lure is a historic and industrious town in the Haute-Saône department, located in eastern France. Its origins are deeply connected to the founding of a Benedictine abbey in 611 AD by Saint Deicolus (Saint Desle), an Irish monk. For centuries, the Abbots of Lure held significant power as Princes of the Holy Roman Empire. The town is geographically positioned near the Ognon river and at the doorstep of the Vosges mountains, providing it with a diverse landscape of forests and lakes. The central landmark is the 18th-century Imperial Abbey building, which now serves as the sub-prefecture office. Lure's economic development accelerated during the industrial era, particularly in the sectors of textiles, metallurgy, and wood processing. Modern-day Lure is a thriving hub for the pharmaceutical and mechanical industries. It is well-connected by rail, sitting on the main line between Paris and Mulhouse. The town provides a high quality of life with its numerous parks, leisure centers, and access to the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, making it a key regional center for both business and tourism.
