Lunéville, situated in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department of the Grand Est region, is an architectural and historical gem of Lorraine. Often referred to as the 'Versailles of Lorraine,' the city owes much of its fame to the grand chateau commissioned by Duke Leopold in the early 1700s. The court reached its cultural zenith under Stanisław Leszczyński, the former King of Poland, who turned Lunéville into a bustling hub of the Enlightenment, attracting great minds like Voltaire. The chateau, despite a catastrophic fire in 2003, has been meticulously restored and remains a testament to late Baroque grandeur. Beyond its royal connections, the town is world-renowned for its faience (earthenware) production, a tradition that has thrived since 1730. Historically, the Treaty of Lunéville signed in 1801 was a major event, reshaping European borders after Napoleon's campaigns. The town's economic history is also tied to the railway industry and a unique style of embroidery known as the 'Point de Lunéville.' Located at the confluence of the Meurthe and Vezouze rivers, it serves as a key gateway between the Nancy plateau and the Vosges mountains.
