Situated on the flat plain of the Saône river in the Côte-d'Or department, Genlis is a quiet small town in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Located about twenty kilometers southeast of Dijon, it provides a peaceful alternative to the busy urban center while maintaining a traditional Burgundian character. A key recreational area for both residents and visitors is the Lac de Genlis. This lake, bordered by open grassy areas, is regularly used by anglers, dog walkers, and families looking for an outdoor picnic spot on warm days. The local architecture features sturdy regional stone buildings, anchored by the historical Château de Genlis. The medieval origins of the castle and the outline of its former defensive fortifications can still be observed in the current layout. The 19th-century Saint-Martin church serves as another central landmark in the municipality. Additionally, Genlis acts as a strategically convenient base for driving out to explore the extensive vineyards and agricultural estates of Burgundy. The local weekly market supplies fresh produce and agricultural goods typical of the Côte-d'Or. Flat cycling and walking paths along the small Norges river provide easy access to the surrounding farmlands.
