Marsannay-la-Côte is a prestigious wine-growing commune in the Côte-d'Or department, marking the northern entrance to the legendary Côte de Nuits vineyard region. It is uniquely celebrated in Burgundy for being the only village appellation that covers all three wine colors: red, white, and especially its famous rosé, which was popularized in the early 20th century. The town is situated on the slopes of a limestone escarpment, where the soil composition provides a great terroir for high-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Beyond viticulture, Marsannay is historically noted for its stone quarries, which supplied high-grade limestone for the construction of many monuments in the nearby city of Dijon. The town beautifully balances its rural, viticultural identity with its role as a key part of the Dijon metropolitan area. Visitors are drawn to its authentic winery cellars, its network of hiking trails through the vineyards (the 'Climats' of Burgundy, a UNESCO World Heritage site), and its spirited cultural scene that centers on the appreciation of French art de vivre and local traditions.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
