Le Malesherbois is a newly formed municipality established in 2016 through the merger of Malesherbes and six surrounding villages. It is situated on the boundary between the Paris Basin and the Loire Valley, at the heart of the Gâtinais region. Historically, the area is deeply connected to Chrétien-Guillaume de Lamoignon de Malesherbes, a renowned jurist and defender of Louis XVI. The monumental Château de Malesherbes stands as a prominent testament to this aristocratic heritage. The local landscape is defined by vast arable lands, rolling hills, and distinctive limestone outcrops typical of the region. Economically, Le Malesherbois thrives on agriculture and the growth of industrial and service sectors, aided by its convenient transport links to Paris. The city functions as a cultural hub for northern Loiret and provides extensive cycling and hiking trails through the varied natural terrain of the Gâtinais.
