Agricultural traditions from the 50s, vintage tractors, and a craft market.
Situated at the strategic confluence of the Yèvre and Cher rivers, Vierzon functions as the primary natural and infrastructural gateway to the densely forested Sologne region. The city remains deeply rooted in its proud industrial history, which for decades was dominated by the manufacturing of agricultural machinery and ceramics. The legacy of the 'Société Française de Vierzon', once famous across Europe for its robust tractors, is still highly visible in the cityscape through the preservation of its massive, steel-framed industrial halls. Offering a stark architectural contrast is the Square Lucien Beaufrère. This remarkable Art Deco garden, laid out on a small island in the Cher River in the 1930s, captivates visitors with its precise geometric water basins and period sculptures. The historic Canal de Berry also runs directly through the municipality, providing flat, tree-lined towpaths that are heavily utilized by local pedestrians and touring cyclists alike. The town's name also holds a place in pop culture history, having been immortalized in a famous chanson by Jacques Brel. Surrounded by forests and waterways, Vierzon today attracts travelers eager to uncover provincial France's 20th-century industrial heritage and explore the trails of the Sologne.
