Saint-Jean-de-Braye is a bustling and environmentally conscious city situated on the northern bank of the Loire, just east of Orléans. As part of the Loire Valley UNESCO World Heritage site, the city balances its historical legacy with a modern industrial powerhouse. Once a rural area famous for its vineyards and market gardens, it underwent a massive economic transformation in the 1970s. Today, Saint-Jean-de-Braye is a cornerstone of France's 'Cosmetic Valley,' primarily due to the presence of the massive Parfums Christian Dior production and research center, which is the town's largest employer. The city is highly regarded for its commitment to green spaces and floral displays, holding the prestigious '4 Flowers' rating in the national competition. Architectural highlights include the Romanesque church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, which dates back to the 12th century and stands as a link to the town's medieval past. Residents and visitors enjoy extensive parks like the Parc des Longues Allées and scenic paths along the Loire river. With its direct tram link to downtown Orléans, the city combines suburban tranquility with the economic vitality of a major industrial hub.
