Olivet is a prestigious residential and cultural commune located just south of Orléans in the Centre-Val de Loire region. It is uniquely defined by the Loiret River, which emerges from an underground source and flows gently through the heart of the town. This tranquil waterway is lined with an exceptional collection of historic estates, manor houses, and traditional watermills, creating a landscape that feels like a living painting. The town's economy historically revolved around horticulture, particularly roses and orchards, and it remains a leader in French gardening excellence, holding the '4 Flowers' national label. Today, Olivet is home to a portion of the Orléans-la-Source university campus and several scientific research institutes, linking its historic charm with modern innovation. Outdoor life is central to the community, with the 'Sentiers du Loiret' providing miles of shaded paths for walkers and joggers. The river itself is a popular spot for traditional flat-bottomed boat tours and canoeing. Olivet manages to maintain a distinct, village-like identity while being a core component of the animated Orléans metropolitan area.
