St. Lawrence Church Vantaa (Finland)

Weather…

The St. Lawrence Church in Vantaa, known as Pyhän Laurin kirkko, is the oldest surviving building in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area. Completed around 1450, this medieval stone church is dedicated to Saint Lawrence. It is an outstanding example of late medieval Finnish church architecture. In 1893, a devastating fire destroyed almost the entire interior of the church, leaving only the massive fieldstone walls standing. The reconstruction took place in 1894 in Gothic Revival style under the direction of architect Theodor Höijer, giving the church its current appearance with characteristic brick gables. The church is located in the historical parish village of Vantaa (Helsingin pitäjän kirkonkylä) and is surrounded by a significant old graveyard. Today, it is one of Finland's most popular wedding churches and a key cultural hub for concerts.
