Sipoonkorpi National Park (Finland)

Weather…

Sipoonkorpi National Park was established in 2011 to protect one of the last large unfragmented forest areas near Helsinki. Spanning the municipalities of Sipoo, Vantaa, and Helsinki, it gives an impressive variety of habitats, ranging from dark spruce forests to open traditional agricultural landscapes. Sipoonkorpi is renowned for its rich fungal flora and is considered one of the best locations in Finland for mycology. The hilly topography, with its steep cliffs and damp hollows, provides challenging terrain for hikers. In the villages within and around the park, traditional farming practices continue, helping to preserve rare cultural landscapes. The park serves as a vital ecological corridor between the coast and inland forest regions. Despite its proximity to the urban center, Sipoonkorpi has retained its wild and pristine character. Numerous hiking trails and campfire sites have been developed in recent years to accommodate increasing visitor numbers while minimizing environmental impact. Sipoonkorpi stands as a model for biodiversity conservation within an urbanized region.
