Nurmijärvi is located just 30 kilometers north of Helsinki, offering an excellent blend of rural tranquility and cultural significance. The village of Palojoki is the birthplace of Aleksis Kivi, the founder of modern Finnish literature; his childhood home is now a museum. The municipality is characterized by the Myllykoski rapids on the Vantaanjoki River, which are a popular destination for hikers and nature photographers. Lake Sääksjärvi, a clear spring-fed lake, provides excellent swimming opportunities with its fine sandy beaches during the summer. The region is also known for its agriculture, particularly potato and grain farming. Visitors can sample local specialties in farm shops, including fresh rye bread and berry products.
