Viimsi Manor (Estonia)

Weather…

Viimsi Manor, situated on the edge of the Viimsi Peninsula, has a history spanning over 550 years and is deeply connected to Estonia's military and political heritage. First mentioned in 1471, the estate initially belonged to the Pirita Convent before passing through various private owners following the Reformation. The current main building, featuring Neoclassical elements, was largely constructed in the 19th century and underwent further modifications in the early 20th century. The manor gained exceptional historical importance after 1919, when it was presented to General Johan Laidoner, the Commander-in-Chief of the Estonian forces during the War of Independence. During the Soviet occupation, the premises were repurposed for military use, resulting in the loss of much of the original interior decor. Since the 1990s, the manor has housed the Estonian War Museum (General Laidoner Museum), documenting the nation's military history from ancient times to the modern era.
