Tallinn Seaplane Harbour (Estonia)

Weather…

The Tallinn Seaplane Harbour, known as Lennusadam, is one of Europe's most impressive maritime museums, housed in historic seaplane hangars built between 1916 and 1917. These hangars were part of the Peter the Great's Naval Fortress and are architecturally significant as the world's first large-scale reinforced concrete shell structures without internal support columns. After decades of military use and neglect during the Soviet era, the complex underwent a massive renovation and opened to the public in 2012. Today, it showcases Estonia's rich maritime history through interactive exhibits and preserved vessels. The centerpieces include the Lembit, a British-built submarine from 1936, and a full-scale replica of the Short 184 seaplane. Outside, the Suur Tõll icebreaker, built in 1914, remains moored as one of the few surviving steam-powered icebreakers of its era. The site serves as a vital cultural hub, blending engineering heritage with modern museum technology.
