Harjumägi (Estonia)

Weather…

Harjumägi is a historic hill in the center of Tallinn, situated immediately west of Freedom Square. Geographically, it is part of the Toompea hill complex, consisting of a hard limestone core that resisted glacial erosion during the ice ages. In the 17th century, under Swedish rule, the hill was heavily fortified and transformed into the Inkeri Bastion, part of the city's modern bastion defense system. Following the demilitarization of the city in the 19th century, the area was converted into a public park in 1860 and has since been a popular leisure spot for Tallinn's residents. Atop Harjumägi stands the Victory Column of the War of Independence, unveiled in 2009. The slopes provide excellent viewpoints overlooking the Old Town and Tallinn's modern skyline. Geologically, the rise is an extension of the North Estonian Glint, a massive limestone escarpment running along the Baltic coast.
