Suure-Nukk (Estonia)

Weather…

Suure-Nukk, literally the "Great Corner," is one of the most prominent and largest capes on the Tagamõisa Peninsula on Saaremaa island. This geological formation juts far into the Baltic Sea and consists of massive limestone layers deposited during the Silurian period. Due to its exposed location, the cape is subjected to strong erosional forces from winter storms and ice movement, resulting in a rugged coastline. In maritime history, Suure-Nukk was a feared point where many ships ran aground due to unpredictable currents and shallows. The vegetation on the cape is low-growing due to constant winds, consisting mostly of grasses and flat shrubs. Today, the area serves as an important observation point for annual bird migration, as many species use the cape as a navigational landmark. The untouched nature and vast views over the open sea make Suure-Nukk a significant site for ecotourism in Estonia.
