Koolimägi (Estonia)

Weather…

Koolimägi is an elevation within the Haanja Upland, the highest region in Estonia and the entire Baltic states. This area is characterized by an extremely restless relief formed by glacial activity during the last ice age. The hill is composed of a mixture of moraine material, including clay and glacial till, which provides good soil stability. Nearby, traditional Estonian farmsteads are often found, adapted to the rolling landscape. Koolimägi is situated in a region known for its harsh climatic conditions and relatively late agricultural development compared to the lowlands. Geologically, the Haanja belt is distinguished by a thick layer of Pleistocene deposits overlying the Devonian bedrock. The slopes of Koolimägi offer expansive views over the undulating landscape of Võru County and form part of an ecologically valuable natural environment.
