Viljandi Water Tower (Estonia)

Weather…

The Viljandi Water Tower is one of the city's most iconic landmarks and a significant industrial monument from the early 20th century. It was constructed in 1911 as part of Viljandi's modern water supply system to meet the demands of the growing town. The 30-meter-high red brick tower is a prime example of industrial architecture from that era, featuring a circular stone base and a wider wooden top that defines Viljandi's skyline. After losing its original function as a water reservoir, the building stood neglected for several decades. In the early 2000s, it was extensively renovated and reopened as an observation tower for the public. From the top floor, visitors can enjoy a panoramic panoramic view of the old town, the castle ruins, and Lake Viljandi. Today, the tower also serves as a museum space, hosting small exhibitions about the city's history and the development of local utility infrastructure.
