The Gran Caldera de Luba is a massive and awe-inspiring volcanic collapse crater located in the rugged southern part of Bioko Island. Spanning approximately 5 kilometers in diameter, the caldera hosts one of the most pristine and untouched rainforest ecosystems in all of Africa. Because of its difficult accessibility and steep walls, the interior of the caldera has remained a sanctuary for numerous primate species, including the endangered drill and various types of guenons. The area receives some of the highest annual rainfall on Earth, feeding spectacular waterfalls and supporting an incredible density of tropical flora. It is a world-class site for biodiversity conservation and scientific research. Curriculum: Geography K7, Biology K8.
