The highly impressive waterfalls are generally reached via the Moca Valley, which often necessitates a drive to the nearest local settlements. From there, a guided hiking path typically leads directly through the lush valley to the plunging waters.
Best season
For substantially safer hiking, the drier months are undeniably best, although the water flow might be somewhat reduced during this period. After heavy rainfall, the cascades plunge remarkably spectacularly, but the access trails become dangerously slippery.
Terrain & paths
The route to the waterfalls rigorously demands navigating steep and highly uneven volcanic rock, all deeply embedded in dense tropical vegetation. The constant combination of moisture and rock makes the terrain challenging and requires good fitness.
What to bring
Excellent footwear featuring a strong, aggressive grip is absolutely mandatory for maintaining safe traction on the wet volcanic rock. Visitors should also remember a rainproof jacket against the falls' misty spray and plenty of drinking water.
