Las Terrenas is a thriving coastal town on the Samaná Peninsula in the northeast of the Dominican Republic. Originally an isolated fishing village, the town has transformed into one of the country's most popular tourist destinations since gaining electricity in 1994 and the construction of new highways. The city is famous for its miles of sandy beaches, such as Playa Bonita and Playa Cosón, which are lined with dense coconut groves. A unique feature of Las Terrenas is its cosmopolitan atmosphere, shaped by a large European expatriate community, primarily from France and Italy. This influence is evident in the local gastronomy and architecture. Despite significant tourism development, the town has maintained a relaxed charm and now serves as a major hub for water sports, whale watching, and eco-tourism in the Samaná region.
