💡 Tips
- Zdice is an industrial town, making it a highly practical, uncrowded base for exploring the nearby Brdy and Křivoklátsko nature reserves.
- For cheap and authentic dining, look for the 'denní menu' (daily menu) during weekday lunch hours in local pubs.
- The town is directly on the D5 highway and main railway, making travel to Prague or Pilsen very easy.
- Stock up on supplies here before heading into the Brdy forests, as amenities are sparse in the protected area.
🍽 Food
Look for a local 'hospoda' near the train station or center for hearty dishes like guláš.
Many local pubs serve regional beers from the nearby city of Beroun. Ask what's on tap.
Grab fresh traditional sweet pastries from a bakery in the morning for your hiking trip.

Zdice is a strategically positioned town in the Central Bohemian Region, tucked away between the Brdy Highlands and the Křivoklát Protected Landscape Area. The first written record of the settlement dates back to 1147, making it one of the older municipalities in the area. Historically, Zdice flourished due to its location on the ancient trade route connecting Prague with Bavaria, which encouraged the growth of inns and local crafts. During the 19th century, the expansion of the railway turned the settlement into a significant transportation hub, eventually leading to its elevation to town status in 1994. The Baroque Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, built in the mid-18th century, serves as the town's architectural centerpiece. The surrounding landscape is characterized by limestone formations and provides various hiking trails into protected nature reserves. Today, Zdice balances its industrial legacy with modern residential development, acting as a vital service center for the surrounding region.
