Králův Dvůr Castle (Czech Republic)

Weather…

Králův Dvůr Castle, situated in the town of the same name near Beroun, features a historical lineage dating back to the 13th century. Originally established as a royal hunting court by King Wenceslaus I, it served as a frequent residence for Bohemian monarchs traveling through the region. In 1585, the Lobkowitz family acquired the estate and initiated a major reconstruction into a representative Renaissance chateau. The structure suffered significant damage during the Thirty Years' War but was meticulously restored in the late 17th century with distinct Baroque modifications. The castle features a rectangular floor plan with a large central courtyard and was historically significant as a site of political intrigue, including the brief imprisonment of King Wenceslaus IV in 1394. Today, the chateau is utilized for municipal and cultural purposes, housing the city library and exhibition halls, while preserving its architectural transition from a medieval stronghold to a noble residence.
