Troja Palace (Czech Republic)

Weather…

Troja Palace is a magnificent Baroque chateau located in the Troja district of Prague, constructed between 1679 and 1691 for the Counts of Sternberg. The design was conceived by architect Jean Baptiste Mathey, who drew inspiration from classical Roman villas. Its most impressive feature is the monumental staircase connecting the garden with the main hall, adorned with sculptures depicting the struggle between the Olympian gods and the Titans. The vast 'Imperial Hall' inside features spectacular ceiling frescoes by Abraham and Isaac Godyn, which celebrate the Habsburg victory over the Turks. The palace is complemented by an extensive French Baroque garden complete with fountains, statues, and an orangery. Today, it serves as a venue for the City Gallery Prague, housing significant collections of 19th-century Czech paintings. Its location directly opposite the Prague Zoo makes it a highly popular destination for both locals and tourists.
